About Inner Mongolia University
Inner Mongolia University is located north of the Great Wall in Hohhot, known as “prairie pearl,” capital city of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. IMU was the earliest established comprehensive university in the national minority area in 1957 just after “new China” had been founded. In 1997 IMU was established as a National Top University and listed in China’s “211 Project” with priority as one of China’s Top 100 Universities. In 2004 the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region’s Peoples Government and the National Ministry of Education joined together in cooperation to further improve IMU.
That same year the Ministry of Education awarded IMU’s undergraduate course teaching work as outstanding among colleges and universities. IMU has undergone more than 50 years of development and has formed disciplines including philosophy, economics, law, literature, history, Neo-Confucianism, technology, agronomy, management and art theory. These nine classes of disciplines are offered as Undergraduate, Master’s, and Doctoral programs. IMU has both a bright national reputation and a local character with both domestic and foreign influence. Currently, IMU has 6 post-doctorate mobile research centers, 10 authorized doctorate disciplines, 40 authorized Master’s degree disciplines, 78 Undergraduate course majors.
The University has formed education programs of different levels such as doctoral, postgraduate, undergraduate and higher vocational and technical education programs, etc. The current number of students at different levels in the University amounts to 33,439, including 444 post graduate students, 4,419 graduate students, 19,900 undergraduate students, 662 foreign students,2,395 vocational college students and 3,292 adult education students.
The University has 2,717 teachers and staff. The full-time teachers and researchers are 1,739 including 138 doctorate supervisors, 244 professors and 490 associate professors. The University boasts 1 academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 5 double-employed academicians, 70 Special Government Allowance winners, 5 candidates of “Hundred-thousand-ten thousands Expert Project”, and 13 candidates of the “New Century Supporting Program for Outstanding Personnel of the Ministry of Education of China”.
Attaching great importance to international academic exchange and cooperation, Inner Mongolia University has been actively enhancing its exchanges and cooperation with international universities and research institutes and it has officially signed agreements of inter-collegiate exchange and cooperation with more than 63 foreign universities.
